Gingerbread Cheesecake

So I think I conquered the regular New York style cheesecake a few months back.

I’ve been contemplating what to have with our Christmas dinner.  So far we have:  prime rib (courtesy of my hubby), garlic mashed cauliflower (for those folks on the d-i-e-t), lettuce salad (thank you, Aunt Karin), and this for dessert:

Yum!  🙂

More about the holidays… my mom thought it would be a GREAT idea to throw 15 of us all under one roof this year for Christmas at my brother’s house.  Doubtful.  I immediately texted my hubby and told him, “I don’t care how much it costs, we are getting a hotel room!!!”  I got some grief from my mother, but once the day arrives, I’d rather be sane than have a house of dead rellies.  hehehe

So we got a room at the local AmericInn.  Mom said my brother was going to be disappointed.  He actually asked to stay there, too… hehehe

Let’s see here we have (some overlaps):

  • 2 active alcoholics
  • 2 kids under 4
  • 2 recovering addicts
  • 2 right wing conservatives
  • the rest of us are dirty hippies
  • 4 “got jeebus”
  • 2 agnostics
  • 1 al-anon member
  • a bunch of adult children of alcoholics

Sounds like trouble in the making, eh?

Please, everyone, TAKE YOUR MEDS!

Oh how I love the holidays…

Preschoolers on Meds?!?!?!

Here are some highlights from a Parenting.com article by Kelly King Heyworth:

  • More than a quarter of US kids and teens now take regular medication.
  • About 1 in 5 children ages 13 to 18 have some sort of mental disorder
  • These medicines are not meant to be a quick solution for stressed-out families

This one just blew my mind and raised a few questions:

  1. Are these kids really this bad?
  2. Are parents just that lazy?
  3. Or is there a serious rise in mental disorders in children?

But I digress… here it is in all it’s glory:  Preschoolers on Meds: Too Much Too Soon?
